Wellen

Buckriders with a warm heart

Visit Wellen and discover the most fruity village of Haspengouw. This religious heritage is unique in the area.

Wellen, known for its buckriders (ghosts, robbers), is a small village in the centre of Haspengouw. The religious heritage is unique in the area: a Neogothic chapel, the Saint-Jan-de-Doper Church, a place of pilgrimage Oeterloeven and an indoor cemetary in the old Saint-Rochus Church. Also the Wellen Mill, the syrup distillery, the Old Brewery Hayen and the historic village square of Ulbeek are all gems where you can relax and feel the peace and quiet.

De Bottelarij

During your visit to Wellen you have to jump in at the Bottelarij.

On the site of the former Hayen brewery in Ulbeek (Wellen) you can now find the Bottelarij. The building was originally a small village brewery that was converted by Arthur Hayen into an ultramodern brewery in 1891.

You will find something for everyone: delicious home-made cakes, sweet and savory pancakes, stew with local produce, an Iraqi, Indian or Afghan dish, an extensive range of Limburg beers, tea and coffee with many different flavors and garnishes.
